Turning Data Into Equity

In today's data-driven world, leveraging data to guide us toward our goals is essential for success. Through analytics and insights, we can make informed decisions that align with objectives. Data can serve as an effective "assistant" - to identify opportunities, optimize, and measure progress - ensuring that we stay on track. Embracing data-centric approaches empowers us to achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively.

About

Dr. Data Xe, MBA

A globally recognized data strategist and systems thinker, I specialize in transforming complex data into actionable, equitable solutions that drive impact across corporate, nonprofit, and public sectors. With two PhDs and a career rooted in strategic planning and data-driven innovation, my work bridges precision with purpose centering both end-users and organizational goals.

My journey is anything but traditional. I earned my GED after navigating inequitable education systems, periods of homelessness, and systemic barriers that demanded resilience and ingenuity. Today, I'm a homeowner, property investor, and advocate for housing justice and systemic equity. My lived experiences fuel my commitment to dismantling bias in data, building ethical systems, and designing with inclusion at the core.

From the boardroom to grassroots, local communities to global society, I bring a rare blend of technical mastery, lived insight, and mission-driven leadership to everything I do.

Voices of Impact

Senator Hicks Hudson

(Former House Representative)

I am writing this short statement speaking to DeVon Overton’s character, reinforcing my appreciation for her involvement, interaction and contributions to the community. There is a saying that tree is known by the fruit it bears.  The fruit from the T Jean Overton tree is her granddaughter, DeVon.  I have had the pleasure of seeing her in her professional role.  She is knowledgeable, proficient and passionate.  These attributes are based in her love and protection of community and family.  While Devon is Mrs. Overton’s granddaughter, she is truly herself competent and compassionate.  I am smiling while I write this short tribute, because I see the fruit that she is bearing to help our community.

Jillian Bunge

VP, Community Impact

DeVon’s unwavering drive to center the needs of the community is one of the most admirable traits I’ve ever experienced in my 12 years as a nonprofit professional. While her ability to strategize and conduct complex analysis of data is remarkable, she can also effortlessly assess the motivations and intentions of people and partners to both lift them up and hold them accountable if they’re deviating from the mission at hand. DeVon is a deeply connected person and everything she does professionally is to improve the lives of the individuals and families in a community she cares deeply for. I am inspired by her every day and feel privileged to call her a colleague and a friend.

Lucas Camuso-Stall

Director, Government Relations

DeVon continues to prove herself as an exemplary data scientist, pushing individuals to find answers and better processes through numerical means. These unique skills were on display in her role on Equality Toledo's Board, proving herself to be a true leader in the LGBTQ+ community.

Candace Buckley

Executive Director

DeVon has a quiet confidence and a brilliant mind. She uses her many talents, and education to advance sustainable solutions to move our community forward. She always speaks from a place of knowledge, experience and with great deal of integrity

Taylor Burciaga

Executive Director

As a board member, DeVon has been a great help to the Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center as an organization as well as to myself as the Executive Director. DeVon helped us improve our Personnel policies and ensure we were improving our systems. She has been a positive soundboard for advice and has a great ability to step back and look at the big picture and keep the priority in the forefront.

Rhonda Sewell

Director of Belonging and Community Engagement

DeVon has been an invaluable asset to my department at the Toledo Museum of Art, where she has been instrumental in helping us measure our inaugural Belonging Plan through the implementation of a global methodology known as Results-Based Accountability ™ (RBA). Her expertise in analytics and her proficiency in RBA have significantly enhanced our understanding of our diversity, equity, access, and inclusion principles and initiatives. DeVon's instructional style is exemplary, and her ability to communicate complex analytical concepts has been instrumental in advancing our measurement strategies.
